Among the greatest compendium of Munch's portraiture from a stunning exhibition at Verona's Palazzo Forti in 2001, perhaps second only to a rare Norwegian publication "Portretteur" (sp?) that is all but impossible to find (that books advantage being that it shows both versions of portraits Munch did of his subjects, as he often repainted one after selling it).L'io e gli Altri ("Himself and Others") gives us some of the greatest hits along with some hidden (or at least rarely seen in the flesh) gems, along with an insightful, albeit wordy (perhaps it is my difficulty with the language) essay in Italian. In any case it is a welcome addition to a Munch library for its focus as a compendium of subjects and a virtual who's who of Munch's acquaintances. Heavy on the paintings, less so on the prints.
