Edvard Munch has always been a mystery to me and I am not the only one. His beautiful art has a style all it's own. He frequently has been under the label of the Expressionist movement. He was born in 1863. This book attempts to shed light on the confusion that still surrounds the conversations of where this artist fits into the movement. The hardback 96 page book shows full page pictures of these confounding subject matters. He is famous for " The Scream", which is included in this book and tries to portray the underlying fear and anxiety of his times. He died in 1944. So he witnessed WWl and the beginnings of WWll. His colors are sometimes dark and this is explained in this book. The images are dramatic and are printed beautifully in this edition. This is an experience and somewhat an acquired taste. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the history of art or the explanation of an artist haunted by his dreams and visions. He emphasizes that fear on the faces of the people he paints with anxiety and pain in their eyes. A great value.
